Sup sup! So I made some new armor tonight because I was a bit bummed my bro was running around in his undies…. buuuuut didnt really feel like retopo and UV and blah blah blah. So I took the base mesh and did some sculpting in nomad which turned out like this:

After the sculpt, I took the sculpt and dumped it into maya, set it to live, and snapped the verts of the base mesh to it so it had the shape properly. Then I exported the adjusted mesh and hiRes as FBXs, and brought them into painter to project and paint.

That done, I took it back into maya so I could make some edge loops where I wanted to switch the material.

Awesome! Now just select the polys you want to stay skin and the ones you want to be the new material and BAM! It should look like this:

Lastly, bind the new mesh to the rig, and then you can just copy the existing skinning to the new mesh.

Siiiiiiick! Now you can just export it as an FBX and it’ll work on all your existing animations.
